The Hudson Review publishes fiction, poetry, essays, literary criticism, book reviews; critical reviews of art, theatre, dance, film, and music; and articles on contemporary cultural developments. Authors of all ages, races, genders, nationalities and publication history are encouraged to send us their work. We have open submission periods for nonfiction, poetry, and fiction; unsolicited manuscripts received at other times will be returned unread (manuscripts by past contributors and subscribers who so identify themselves will be read throughout the year, and may be submitted by mail). Additionally, we hold biennial poetry and fiction contests. We do not publish work that has already been published elsewhere or that is due to appear in the near future. We do not consider simultaneous submissions or work generated with AI, or written with the aid of AI. Guidelines for regular submissions can be found below, as well as guidelines for reviews. Read about our contests here. Formatting guidelines may be found here.
