The Hudson Review holds two biennial contests, the Frederick Morgan Poetry Contest and the Short Fiction Contest. Authors of all ages, races, genders, nationalities and publication history are encouraged to send us their work. We do not publish work that has already been published elsewhere or that is due to appear in the near future. We do not consider simultaneous submissions or work generated with AI, or written with the aid of AI. Formatting guidelines may be found here.
 
 
The Frederick Morgan Poetry Contest:
 
Submissions for our next poetry contest will be open from April 1, 2027, to April 30, 2027. Winning poems will be published in The Hudson Review.

  • There is no fee to submit.
  • First Prize: $1,000 + publication
  • Second and Third Prizes: $500 + publication.
  • Submit at www.hudsonreview.com/submissions or by mail (enclose SASE) to 33 W. 67th St., NY, NY 10023.
  • Limited to FIVE poems. Combine poems into a single document to submit.
  • The contest does not have a theme.
  • Open to poets never before published in The Hudson Review. (If you’ve been published anywhere else, that’s fine!)
  • We consider both US and international submissions.
  • Translations are welcome.
  • We do not consider simultaneous submissions.
  • We do not consider work that has already been published elsewhere or that is due to appear in the near future (if your poem has appeared in any form, including online—in a blog, social media posts, etc.—we consider it to be previously published work).
  •  We do not consider work created with AI.

Short Fiction Contest:
 
Submissions for our next fiction contest will be open in 2027 during our regular fiction reading period, from September 1, 2027, to November 30, 2027. All fiction submissions made at that time that meet the contest guidelines will automatically be considered for the contest. Winning stories will be published in The Hudson Review. All submissions will be considered for publication and payment at our regular rates.

  • There is no fee to submit.
  • First Prize: $1,000 + publication
  • Second and Third Prizes: $500 + publication
  • Submit online or by mail (enclose SASE) to 33 W. 67th St., NY, NY 10023.
  • Open to writers never before published in The Hudson Review. (If you have been published anywhere else, that’s fine!)
  • We consider both US and international submissions.
  • Translations are welcome.
  • Manuscripts must be under 10,000 words.
  • The contest does not have a theme.
  • We do not consider simultaneous submissions.
  • We do not consider stories that have already been published elsewhere or that are due to appear in the near future (if your story has appeared in any form, including online—in a blog, social media posts, etc.—we consider it to be previously published work).
  • We do not consider work created with AI.
